Semester 1 Self Performance

Semester Self Performance

We made multiple projects, but the three I'm going to talk about is Photoshop Challenge 1, Photoshop Challenge 2, and the Infographic. If you want to see the projects I worked on throughout the semester, click here to see my behance profile. Later, I self reflect on how I did as a student of graphic design.

Photoshop Challenge 1

Photoshop Challenge was the first major project we did that wasn't a tutorial. Basically, we were given a picture of a man, and we had to use photoshop to make it more nature-like. It took me about a week to a week and a half to finish this project. Some of the challenges I faced in this project was that I was not being as familiar with the tools and photoshop in general. But, I got through it. Along the way, I learned tools like the stamp tool, the quick selections, and how layers are used in general. The feedback I was given at first was not using all the tools we were supposed to do, but I fixed that. At first, all I was going to use was the stamp tool, because I was most comfortable with that tool, but I had to use the other tools so I mixed it up. This was a good stepping stool for me into getting comfortable with Photoshop.

Photoshop Challenge 2

The next project I am going to talk about is Photoshop Challenge 2, which is a project we did after Photoshop Challenge 2. For this project, we had to use five photos of nature images and combine them into one. This project took about a week to complete. Some of the challenges  I went through was making it all flow naturally as one, and not looking choppy. You had to be creative in this project to be successful. The feedback I was given is to use one photoshop filter on a part of my project, and I fixed that and turned it in. This project I didn't really have a plan this project, I kind of just went with the flow. I was proud of this project and in my opinion, this was my best project of the year.

Infographic

The last project I am going to talk about is Infographic project, which unfortunately, I didn't get done with it at the time of me making this project. Our goal in this project was to make an infographic about whatever we wanted to make it about. I did mine over the top fast food restaurants. We have spent almost a month on this, and I am still not done with it. The first challenge I went through was finding all the facts about the top restaurants. Then, we had to draw 10 different layouts of what our infographic could look like. Then we picked one and drew a final draft. Finally, we traced our graphics and made it into our own. We were supposed to start making the infographic and finish it on Friday, but I didn't get done with it. The main thing I learned was tracing the graphics. The feedback I was given was to get rid of lines and make it flow better, and to get varying facts. the change I made from my original idea was getting rid of the black lines to make it flow better. My overall opinion is I have gotten way more creative in projects, and this project shows my creativity. Down below I gave what I have so far in my Infographic and all my graphics.

How well did I use my time?

I could have worked harder more towards the beginning of the school year, but in my opinion, I finished off strong. Usually I didn't get done early so I never got time to enhance my project, unless I stayed after school to get a better grade on it.

My Strengths as a Graphic Design Student.

In my opinion, one of my biggest strengths is creativity. I try to make come up with the best ideas so I get a good start. Sometime ideas just come to my head as I am working and some of those ideas make the project a whole lot better.

My Areas of Improvement

I have a lot of space to get better at in Graphic Design. The first I will talk about is just knowing the software. I know that's something everyone can get better at, especially being a beginner, but I feel I can get way better at it. The other thing I can improve heavily on is project management. I get distracted easily and I need to just stay focused so I can get projects done. I know I said I got better, but I can still improve.

Summary

One thing I love most about this class is there is always something to work on. You are always busy. One thing I would change is I need to work harder and I need to correct more projects when I get a bad grade on them. One takeaway I have is that graphic design is hard, and staying on top of projects is key in being successful in this class. One goal I would set for next year is to have a better grade in this class, like a mid A, instead of on the edge of an A-. To do that, I need to do the things I said I need to change. Graphic Design is hard, but not impossible, and doing this class was a good decision for me.
